fitness and wellness

although maryland governor larry hogan announced stage three reopening guidelines for the state of maryland, the knott athletic recreation convocation complex will be open with limited use for mount students and employees only. we will continue to communicate updates regarding the timeline for reopening, modifications to services, and safety measures via the mount st. mary's university website and other social media platforms.

campus recreation is currently offering group fitness classes to mount students.  to see the classes offered and times, please go to and create an account.  pre-registration is required for all group fitness classes. we're here to support your mind, body, and spirit, be that through encouraging healthy eating habits, mindfulness, yoga, circuit training, fitness classes, or even a cardio program that you can do on your own.

pnc fitness center policies

  • all patrons are required to wear masks at all times while using the fitness center.
  • clean equipment before and after you use it.  spray cleaner on the paper towel, not directly on the equipment.
  • the use of chalk is prohibited.
  • Do not remove any equipment from the fitness center.
  • bar collars must be used while using free weights.
  • the use of safety bars is strongly recommended.
  • clean and return all equipment to the proper place.
  • do not drop or throw equipment.
  • be respectful.  no swearing, grunting, or loud noises.
  • wear appropriate workout attire:  full-length shirts, workout-pants or shorts, and athletic footwear.  no jeans.
  • only water or sports drinks are permitted but must be in sealable bottles.
  • if you experience dizziness, light-headedness, or other signs of physical distress, stop exercising and notify a staff member.
  • report all injuries to a staff member.

arcc fitness spaces

the following areas of the arcc have reservable spaces for fitness:

  • pnc fitness center, lower level:  this area contains our strength equipment such as dumbbells, free weights, power racks, functional trainers, and some selectorized machines.
  • pnc fitness center, upper level:  this area contains our cardio equipment such as bikes, treadmills, elliptical trainers, and stair climbers.
  • field house, circuit weight machines:  located on half of court one in the field house you will find a full set of circuit weight machines.
  • field house:  half-courts are available for reservation on courts 2-4.  there is a limit of two people per court and each person must be participating in an activity independently.
  • field house:  up to six people may use the indoor track during each reservation time slot.
  • group exercise studio:  the studio has been set up for stretching and core work.  you may use the equipment in the room, which includes a set of medicine balls, stretch bands, and bosu balls.  participants must bring their own mat if they wish to use one.

fitness classes

fitness classes are currently open to mount students only and are being offered free of charge.  classes being offered during september 2020 include cycle, cycle express, kickboxing, ultimate core, and yoga.  for more details and a schedule of classes, please go to the group fitness classes tab on
